Twins
Song Lyrics and Sound Clip
Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer

This song is available on Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer's
Nobody Else Like Me: Celebrating the Diversity of Children .

We'll never forget the first day of school
It all started when we took the morning carpool
We pulled up to the schoolyard, we jumped out the door
That's when the teachers chin hit the floor
She said, "I sure hope I'm seeing double."
"These kids could be big trouble!"

Chorus
TWINS! They look just the same.
TWINS! They have the same last name.
I can't tell them apart, what will I do?
Oh, no, they even have the same shoes!

My sister and I knew just what to do
We looked at each other, gave our secret clue
We put our knees together, we waved our right hands
And said, "Hello, Teacher!" in unison
We marched to our seats, we turned on a dime
We sat down at just the same time!

TWINS - we look just the same
TWINS - we have the same last name
She can't tell us apart, what will she do
We've got the teacher completely confused!

The next day we wanted to trick the teacher
I wore sneakers, I wore patent leather
I wore green, I wore blue
It was really obvious who was who
Then after lunch we traded clothes
We knew the teacher would never know!

TWINS - we look just the same
TWINS - we've got the same last name
We can be double trouble or twice as funny
We're drawn to fun like bears to honey

We walked into class, we traded seats
We thought we were really neat (clever)
The teacher called on me, I answered in rhyme
She called on me, I answered this time
She studied us hard, she took a few notes
She was a little smarter than we had hoped!

The teacher looked at us, she started to grin
We knew our little game was about to end
She put her hands on her hips, tapped her foot on the floor and said
"Hey, why didn't I see it before?
One has a freckle. One has a bigger smile.
You can't fool me, I knew it all the while!"

TWINS - we thought we'd fool the teacher
TWINS - she was a clever creature
Now the whole class knows how to tell us apart
How did our teacher get so smart?

TWINS! Our birthdays are the same
TWINS! We have the same last name
Sometimes they look alike and sometimes they don't
But they're two different people and that's no joke!
