The Eensy Weensy Spider (The Itsy-Bitsy Spider)
Children's Song Lyrics and Sound Clip
Jackie Silberg

Jackie Silberg offers terrific ideas for teaching music and
using music to teach inThe I Can't Sing Book:
For Grownups Who Can't Carry a Tune in a Paper Bag... but Want to Do Music With Young Children

This game teaches many skills; listening, language acquisition and how topay attention.
First learn the song and then add the actions. [See below for activites and variations.]

Eensy weensy spider went up the water spout.
Move fingers up to the sky like a spider.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Move fingers down from the sky like rain.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.
Make a big circle with hands for the sun.
And the eensy weensy spider went up the spout again.
Move fingers up to the sky like a spider.

After learning the song, sing it many times in many different ways. The actions are the same, however, no matter how many different ways you sing it.
Other ways to sing the song include:
      La, la, la
      Hum
      Whistle
Beginning letter sounds -- ga ga; da da; ta, ta, ta, or the beginning sound of your name or your child's name.
No singing, only the actions -- you'll be amazed at how quiet the children are!
