Geometry
Teaching the Practical Uses of Geometry
Jim Thompson

  Listen to this song.

This song is available on Jim Thompson's "Work It!"

All right, lets talk about a little branch
of mathematics called geometry.

This is a branch that deals with
measurements and properties and
relationships of lines and angles and
surfaces and solids, points and things like that.

So if you like to build things
like I do, you’re gonna like this
So why don’t ya’ll join in with me
and just first take a listen and then
join me once you know it.

You say you wanna build a bridge
across a little stream
Or something less extreme
like a fort up in a tree

You’ll need to cut and measure
all the pieces that you’ll need
There’s your opportunity to
use geometry

Measuring your angles,
segments, rays and lines
Taking precautions to
make sure your fort will
stand the test of time

Make the door a rectangle,
the window a square
Lets see how many polygons
you can find in there.

Opportunities all around
Measure this, measure that, measure this
