Use this song at clean-up time. Choose the word that best describes what you are picking up: blocks, puzzles, toys, books, or games.
Jump down, turn around, and pick up the games. Jump down, turn around, and put the games away. Everybody's working to pick up the games. Everybody's working to put the games away.
Work standing up! Work sitting down! Work on your knees with the games all around! Work standing up! Work sitting down! Putting the games away.
Jump down, turn around, and pick up the blocks. Jump down, turn around, and put the blocks away. Everybody's working to pick up the blocks. Everybody's working to put the blocks away.
Work standing up! Work sitting down! Work on your knees with the blocks all around! Work standing up! Work sitting down! Putting the blocks away.
Jump down, turn around, and pick up the books. Jump down, turn around, and put the books away. Everybody's working to pick up the books. Everybody's working to put the books away.
Work standing up! Work sitting down! Work on your knees with the books all around! Work standing up! Work sitting down! Putting the books away.
Extension Activity from Sharon MacDonald:
Write the poem on a chart. Replace the word "blocks," "games," or "books" with other words that describe what the children pick-up in the classroom. Give the children index cards with the names of the items written on them. Have each child pick a card and pick up that item. Then, the child can match the index card to the word on the chart and choose another card.
