Name Game
Sharon MacDonald

This song is available on Sharon MacDonald's Watermelon Pie.

See some of Sharon's lesson ideas, below.

I have a name that's me, you see.
It is the name for me to be.
I like my name for it is me.
Can you guess what it could be?
It is not Sarah or Carlee.
It is not Harvey or Larry.
Is not Betty or Tyree.
Can you say my name for me?

Extension lessons:

1. Have the children look for characteristics in each of their names as they work with the sentences below. Each week choose one of the sentences to write on a chart. The children hang with a clothespin on a clothesline, pin with a pushpin, stick with Sticky Tac, or hook with brads, the children's names that meet the requirements of the sentence.

If your name has the letter _____ in it, hang it here.

If your name begins with _____, pin it here.

If your name ends with _____, hook it here.

If your name sounds like _____, stick it here.

If your name has a VCV pattern, hang it here.

If your name has a VCVE pattern, stick it here.

If your name has a ______ blend, pin it here.

If your name has a ______ diphthong, stick it here.

If your name has a ______ diagraph, hook it here.

2. Other name-grouping activities are:
Find the children's names that rhyme.
Find names with two vowels, side-by-side.
Find names that have multiple letters in them (3,4, 5, 6, etc.).
Put the names in the pocket chart in alphabetical order.
Place each name on the word wall next to the correct letter.
Find all the names with tall letters, hanging letters, rounded letters,
and letters with dots.
