An excellent resource for speech delays and for stutterers, "First Sentences" includes 10 common and functional phrases set to music.  Each is presented at three different speeds: regular, a little slow, and very slow. This unique feature makes "First Sentences"exceptionally suited for children with speech disorders. Each CD or downloadable album also comes with printable lyrics and picture cues to help children follow along.  The songs included in this album are:  I want..., My Turn/Your Turn, I have..., I Need Help, I Did It, Come here, Where Is..., Let's Go To..., Don't Do That and I'm All Done.

For Stuttering…
Therapists can use the First Sentences CD at the beginning of treatment sessions to help students establish a favorable speaking rate and fluent speech. Therapists can then transition to other activities utilizing fluency shaping and stuttering modification techniques, maintaining the baseline established through music.
Parents can use the CD at home to share fluent experiences in a fun and simple way. Parents can also play the songs on the way to school to help their children start the day on the right track.

For Apraxia…
Therapists can use "First Sentences" as a fun way to practice common phrases in a structured, patterned format. The melodies can also help emphasize the prosodic features of language. Therapists may want to first sing the songs without the recordings to go at the child’s pace and experiment with additional cues (tactile, visual, etc.). When using the CD, therapists can start with the “very slow” versions and then transition to the “little slow” and “regular” versions respectively as the child progresses. If the child has been listening to the songs at home, he/she may progress even more quickly!
