I Can Hear The Creatures Sing
Song about Animal Sounds for Young Children
Wendy Rollin

This song is available Wendy Rollin's "It's Elementary!"

Spoken:
All the world’s alive with rhythm
Tap of hooves, flap of wings
And there is a special song
For every living thing

I can hear the creatures sing
I can hear the creatures sing
I can hear the creatures sing
In the great creation choir

Sing creatures sing
All the creatures sing

. . . The mighty lions roar
. . .Tthe gentle lambs implore
. . .The birds trill as they soar
In the great creation choir

Sing creatures sing
All the creatures sing
. . . The whales call ‘neath the sea
. . . Croons the coyote
. . . The bees add harmony
In the great creation choir

Sing creatures sing
All the creatures sing

(Return to beginning . . . then . . .)

Sing creatures sing – All the creatures sing
Sing!

This song is fun to sing, sound and enact all by itself, as well as being perfect for inclusion in a learning unit about the creatures with whom we share the planet.

Suggested activity:
Prepare, or have children prepare, a picture/poster of each of the following:
lion, lamb, birds, whale, coyote, bees
Holding up each poster, ask the children to make the sound of each creature.
Divide class into 6 groups, one for each creature,
and pick someone in each group to hold up their creature’s poster,
when it is time to make their creature’s sound.
One by one, point to each group, in order of appearance, as listed above,
so that they can practice holding up poster and making sound.

Now, teach the words to the song’s chorus,
spoken, or sung to the melody, if you wish.
I can hear the creatures sing (3x)
In the great creation choir.

You’re ready to play the song on the album.
Have children sing along, knowing they will get better with every repetition.
And in order of appearance . . .
let each group hold up its creature poster and make a
joyful roar, bleat, tweet, whale sound, howl or buzz!
