Relative Rock Transfer
Joan Maute, Ed.D.

  Listen to this song.

This song is available on Joan Maute's A Rock Is Born.

Did you ever think, did you ever care
How the rocks were made, how they came to be there?.
Well their story began 'round the start of our earth,
And there's a lot to tell regarding their birth.

Things got boring under the ground.
So rocks started messing around.
Some got hot; they pressurized it.
New rocks were formed called metamorphic.

Some are foliated, in layers they're related:
Slate phylliet, schists and gneiss..
Others emphasize then become recrystallized:.
Marble and serpentine.

How can you mend the achin' hearts,.
Of rocks that are broken apart?.
On the surface, it's elementary,
New rocks are made sedimentary.

Parts of several rocks compact to form the clastics:
Sandstone, conglomerate, breccia and shale.
Precipatation, evaporation help to make nonclastics:.
Limestone and salt.

Now you've heard a bit, just the start of my tale,
'Bout the birth of limestone, marble and shale.
Tuck it in your mind, do your very best,.
And I guarantee and "A" on your test.

This song is available on Joan Maute's A Rock Is Born.
