Song for Teaching About the Properties of Mammals
Lyrical Learning

This song is available on Lyrical Learning's
Lyrical Life Science Volume 2: Mammals, Ecology, and Biomes

There are different kinds of mammals but they all have hair or fur
And the babies all get to drink milk that they get from their mother
Monotremes lay eggs instead of giving birth to young alive
And the immature marsupials crawl to pouches to survive
There are nineteen orders of placental mammals in this class
You can learn of them in other songs but they're listed here real fast
They are grouped by how and what they eat, how they move or their features
Or where and how they live help to classify diverse creatures
There are rodents and the rodent-like, insect-eaters and flying bats
Carnivores and those without real teeth and the trunk-nosed elephants
There are many kinds with hoofs and there are water dwellers too
Primates you will remember for the order includes you
Mammals that walk and live on the land are all terrestrial
And the kinds that live up in the trees are all arboreal
Mammals that live in saltwater seas are what we call marine
There are also those that fly so high or can glide from tree to tree
