Verse 1
Almost every living cells splits in the same way
First it makes a copy of its DNA
Every chromosome has a perfect copy made
In the part of the cycle called interphase
The copies are attached at the centromere
In a big loose bundle called the chromatin
They’re all hangin’ out in the nucleus
We’re talking all about mitosis
Chorus
Almost every living cell goes through mitosis
Where the living cells make copies of themselves
There are several stages that the cells must go through
From the pro- to the meta- to the ana- and the telophase
Verse 2
First stop for the cell it is prophase
The chromatin come together in a small space
It is like they are all having a party
And now it’s time for the metaphase
The chromosomes line up on the hemisphere
They make a straight line with their centromeres
When they’re all lined up we are outta here
Anaphase is next so don’t you fear
Verse 3
In anaphase the centromeres break down
And the chromosomes move to the opposite sides of the cell
In telophase the cells begin to split
And the cell membrane forms a shell around the brand new nucleus
Cytokinesis is when they split
Know you’ve got a new cell with a nucleus
The two new cells they are genetic twins
And once it’s done the process will begin again
