They Dance for Rain and Rainbows

Song Lyrics About Pueblo Indians and Sound Clip
Sam Jones

Lyrics:

(to the tune of “Shenandoah”)

On Feast Day the Pueblo Indians
Celebrate in Old San Juan
The Tewa tribe will be dancing
To honor the sun and Saint John

Oh how I long to see the Pueblos
Dancing in New Mexico
They show the earth great respect
And they dance for rain and rainbows

The Tewas dance out in the plaza
Imitating Comanche warriors
The dancers pray and give thanks
All the children and the elders

Oh how I long to see the Pueblos
Dancing in New Mexico
They show the earth great respect and they dance
For rain and rainbows
For rain and rainbows
