Las mañanitas
Traditional Spanish Happy Birthday Song Lyrics

 Listen to this song.

This song is available on Jim Rule's Too Much Fun - ¡Demasiada Diversíon!

I have always enjoyed this Spanish birthday song. Actually, it is two songs traditionally sung together. It has also been associated with courting and serenading outside the window of a lucky girl.      When it is sung to a girl, the “Hoy por ser día de tu santo” is replaced with “A las muchachas bonitas”. In English, you can replace the second Happy Birthday with a name - Happy Birthday to you, Timmy! , Happy Birthday to Vanessa, Happy Birthday, Alejandro, etc.         -- Jim Rule

Estas son Las manañitas
(These are the morning songs)
que cantaba el Rey David.
(that King David sang.)
Hoy por ser día de tu santo
(For today to be the day of your saint)
te las cantamos así.
(we sing to you like this.)

¡Despierta, mi bien, despierta!
(Wake up, my dear. Wake up!)
Mira que ya amaneció.
(See that it is already dawn...)

Qué linda está la mañana en que vengo a saludarte...
(How beautiful is the morning in which I come to greet you...
