TAKING TURNS ACTIVITIES
As parents we often talk about taking turns when playing. This song speaks of the fine art of turn taking, both in working together and in terms of verbal communication as well. During the chorus when Captain Al and I are taking turns saying "taking turns" you and your child can do the same. As a general rule it's a good idea to consciously think about modeling verbal turn taking to your child by pausing when you have finished your thought and allowing your child the opportunity to verbally express herself. After their turn at verbal expression, you should pause for a moment before responding. This way, your child will not feel rushed when she is talking. Adults should also attempt to model these skills when conversing with each other.
