They say I’m white. What does that mean?
Thought I was peach, or cream, or sandy like the beach?
They say I’m white. What does that mean? What does that mean??
I look around, I see white faces!
The white house, the movies, and lots of other places.
So many white faces, in lots of high places.
So many on the screen, I wonder what it means?!
Way way way back, there was no white.
Then they said light skin to the left and dark skin to the right.
We’re gonna call you “Black” and you we’ll call you “white”,
And if you’ve got that light skin then we’ll give you special rights.
That was long ago, but not a lot has changed.
Not a lot has changed. Don’t you think it’s strange?
We can make some change. We can make some change.
Gotta make some change, cause it is so strange.
We didn’t make it start but we can make it stop
White does not mean bad, but white can’t be on top.
We didn’t make it start but we can make it stop
White does not mean bad, but white can’t be on top.
So if I'm white, what does that mean?
It means that I can work to change unfair things that I see!
It means I should be kind. It means that I can share.
It means that I should learn about how to make it fair.
Because I'm white. And I can help.
I'm white. I've gotta love myself.
I've gotta love others. We've got to love each other.
Got to work together, so we can make it better!
We can make it better! We can make it better! We can make it better!
Let me look at the facts of it,
Black folks didn’t come here with no bad habits.
That was a lie y’all, don’t even try y’all,
you haven’t seen what i’ve seen through my eyeballs
The skin I’m in is genuine, brings me in to all my kin.
There were laws to block me out and break me down is what some folks were all about
but you know what now?
The picture is this, when white Europeans came to America to live.
Folks got two choices, become white, keep quiet, or end up at the bottom ofthe list.
They got tricked. The whiteness gave them power but it didn’t make em rich.
Folks with my skin got the other end of the stick, but we learn how to persist.
They say I’m Black, what does that mean?
It means that I can do every anything.
You know cause we survived, and today we’re alive
The fact that we are here is such a truth over the lies
That we were unfit to live, unfit to be, but if it were up to me we’d all be free.
To live and love and liberated, Black skin makes me motivated.
Elevated. Be creative. So much greatness. Listen to this:
We didn’t make it start, but we can make it stop, make a big old salad not a melting pot!
We didn’t make it start but we can make it stop
White does not mean bad, but white can’t be on top.
We didn’t make it start but we can make it stop
White does not mean bad, but white can’t be on top.
I believe I believe You can be the change
I believe You can be the change
I believe I believe You can be the change
I believe You can be the change
I believe I believe You can be the change
I believe You can be the change Today.
