Patriotic Medley
(To "America" & "America, the Beautiful")
Judy Leonard

The song is available on Judy Leonard's Places and Faces of America Mini Musical.

Samuel Francis Smith
Was working at his desk
When an old friend knocked upon his door
He needed a new song
For the children in the choir
And he left a stack of songbooks on the floor

So Samuel Francis Smith
Put aside his work
And found a tune that everyone would know
From the bottom of the trash
He pulled a paper scrap
And on it, these are the words he wrote

To "America"

My country 'tis of thee
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing
Land where my fathers died
Land of the pilgrim’s pride
From every mountainside
Let freedom ring

Katherine Lee Bates
Spent a summer day
On a tour of a Rocky Mountain spot
The road was very steep
All the way to Pike’s Peak
But finally they made it to the top

Katherine Lee Bates
Stood breathless and amazed at the beauty
of the countryside below
And back at her hotel
In the magic of that spell
She set her thoughts down in a poem

To: America the Beautiful"

Oh, beautiful for spacious skies
For amber waves and grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
America, America
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea

To America, we sing!
