Verse #1
I cannot play the clarinet - can't strum the ole guitar.
And if you put a drum in front of me - I won't get far.
But hand me a maraca, my favorite thing!
I'll just get the rhythm going - WE CAN SING!!
Refrain:
Mar-a-ca___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca ___oh, I love that sound!
Mar-a-ca,___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca - heard the world around.
Heard the world around!
Verse #2
I cannot play the trombone and the trumpet blows my mind.
And on that silly saxophone the notes I cannot find!
But hand me a maraca, my favorite thing.
I'll just get the rhythm going - WE CAN SING!!
(Refrain)
Verse #3
The French horn doesn't make a sound - can't make my left hand work !
I get so tangled in the tuba - I feel just like a jerk.
But hand me a maraca, my favorite thing!
I'll just get the rhythm going -WE CAN SING!!
(Improvisation during break)
Final Refrain:
Mar-a-ca,___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca ___oh, I love that sound!
Mar-a-ca,___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca - heard the world around. (Modulate key)
Mar-a-ca,___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca ___oh, I love that sound!
Mar-a-ca,___mar-a-ca ___ mar-a-ca - heard the world around.
HEARD THE WORLD AROUND !
*In the refrain after each “mar-a-ca”, young children could play the maracas
with a simple beat of “1,2,3” and then add a shake of the maracas
on “oh,” I love that sound”. At the end of the song it is fun for the children
to shake maracas while moving their hands in a circle in front (left to right
seems to work best) as if to show the outline of the “world” ...ending with
one loud accent beat.
