Indians lived way before you and me
In forests, deserts, plains, near seas
Learning to live with what was at hand
Making their clothing and homes from the land
Chorus
Hear those drums, they’re beating loud
“First Americans and so proud” (repeat)
Iroquois lived in the Eastern Woods
There the hunting and fishing were good
Longhouses made from trees were their homes
Wore deerskin clothing, crops were grown
Chorus
Cheyenne planted corn on the Plains
But they grew hungry because of no rain
Needing more food, they would hunt buffalo
Living in tipis, so freely they’d go
Chorus
Navajo in the Desert Southwest
Had to adapt to dry land their best
Hogan houses, corn grown by streams
Raised livestock, learned how to weave
Chorus
We can learn much from the Indian way
How to make good use of our land each day
How to treat nature with honor and care
Not using up and willing to share
Chorus
First Americans and so proud
and so proud…and so proud
