Chugga Chugga Choo Choo
Fran Avni

Listen to this song.

This song is performed on on Fran Avni's I'm All Ears: Sing Into Reading.

Have children listen for the /ch/ in the initial position, stand up when they hear it in the medial position, and wave when it is in the final position.
Children can listen to the difference between /ch/ and /sh/.  Tell them, "Say the two sounds and notice what your tongue does." "Say: Shifty cheetahs chase shy chipmunks.
Try this as a rhythm accompaniment: ShChShChShChSh Then contrast the sounds of /ch/ and  /j/:  "Say /ch/ and /j/. Is the tongue in different positions this time? Try putting your fingers on your voice box (Adam's
apple) and say /ch/ and /j/. Feel any difference?"
Chug a jug of cherry juice."

Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chewy chewy chocolate chips. CHEW!

Charlie's children cheerfully chewed
Chicken chunks in the kitchen for lunch
Chicken chunks in the kitchen for lunch

Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chugga chugga choo-choo, choo-choo
Chewy chewy chocolate chips. CHEW!
