Let's Make Words
Rap for Teaching the Manipulation of Onsets and Rimes
Jack Hartmann

 Listen to this song.

This song is available on Jack Hartmann's Hip-Hop AlphaBop 2.

Suggested activities from Jack Hartmann:
This song teaches beginning sounds and the blending of onsets and rimes.
Do some hip-hop moves during the chorus, then follow movements left to right. In the open version (included with this CD) your class can try other words. The class can be split up as one half says the beginning sound (onset) and the other half responds with the rime. Start with simple, two-phoneme words, then build up to three and four-phoneme words.

Chorus:
Hip-Hop with your hands — What!
Hip-Hop with your head — Yo!
Hip-Hop with your hips — What!
Hip-Hop and make words — Like this!

Put your hands in the air
Boys and Girls
Left to right
Let's make words

When I say /d/
You say "uck"
When I say /d/
You say "uck"
d-uck
d-uck
Together we've got "duck."

When I say...
