Determining the Surface Area of Prisms & Cylinders
It's Called a Net
The Trigs

  Listen to this song.

This song is available on Triangle Head by The Trigs.

This song is about finding the surface area of prisms and cylinders by unfolding the figure and finding the area of the net that makes it up. It also covers a few examples of when this would be useful (painting, wrapping presents, the cost to makes boxes, etc.).

Let's talk about boxes, and how much
Cardboard it would take just to make one
Little box. Now what if we could
Unwrap that one box, how would it look?
Just like this. It's called a net.

Chorus:
Let's find the area of the shapes we find
When we unfold the box the ones on the outside
Then if we add up all of the areas
Then we'll have the surface area
.

Let's talk cylinders: They are all tubes
If we could unfold them, what would they look like, dude?
It's called a net, it's just a diagram
That shows what it would take for you to make a shape
So fold it up. And then you're done.

Bridge:
If I want to paint all of the walls
Or if I want to wrap some presents up for all of y'all
To determine the cost to make a box
To do all of these, I need the surface area
