V1
I was going down the road, oh the road, the road
The road that runs on by my childhood abode
My mama and my papa told me when I left the nest
To remember that our family’s way really was the best
V2
First I met a horse with a beautiful mane
When all I knew were animals whose fur looked all the same
The horse and I, we galloped and we had a lot of fun
And we smiled and we laughed under the noon day sun
CHORUS
You never know who you’ll meet on your journey down the road
So be open to the froggies and the foxes and the toads
They might be big, or they might be small
Use your heart, not your eyes, don’t put up a wall
You never know who you’ll meet on your journey down the road,
Be friendly with your neighbors, they might help you with your load
They might seem different but I’m sure you’ll find
If you learn a bit about them you might change your mind
V3
Next, along the way I met a wise old hen
She opened my mind to a thing or ten
And I realized that I could learn so much from other friends
And I was only at the road’s very first bend
V4
On the hill I met a hedgehog who had eyes that shined bright
She waddled and giggled and it was quite a sight
She said “be strong!” and “don’t give up” when you know you have the right
And I learned from her to be gentle but still have so much might
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
Use your heart....
Not your eyes...
Don’t put up a wall...
Use your heart....
Not your eyes...
Don’t put up a wall...
V5
Some new friends had scales and some had fur
Some of them liked to bark some liked to purr
But above all, what I learned, and I’ll shout it to the skies,
Is when I opened my heart to others, they opened up my eyes
CHORUS
