When you drive, traffic signs help you know
When to slow down, should you stop or go
When you write there are sign posts everywhere too
Called punctuation marks; here's what they do
A period says that you've come to the end
Of a sentence or command, stop then.
A question mark shows an interrogative
Like: What's your name? Where do you live?
An exclamation point is at the close
Of a sentence with emotion: "Blow your nose!"
A comma means pause for a second not more
Like a yield sign, slow down, don't ignore
Punctuation, punctuation, punctuation, punctuation marks
An apostrophe high up in the air
For contractions or possessives: "That's Bill's chair!"
Parenthesis set off those words you realize
Giving clarity (what you want to emphasize!)
A colon is used for lists or time br />
Buy supplies: pens, pads, paste ... at 9:00
Semi-colons in a sentence are oftentimes there
Acting as a period or comma; be aware
Punctuation, punctuation, punctuation, punctuation marks
Quotation marks show conversation ... titles too
Of something that's short: chapters, poetry, tunes
Italics or underlining used for works long
Like a book, magazine, or a 50-page song
Without punctuation marks you'd be in a jam
Communication backed-up hard to understand
Steering safely through your writing knowing what to do
Using punctuation marks, others thank you
Punctuation, punctuation, punctuation, punctuation marks (2X's)
