Passover Songs

Passover Songs

Passover is celebrated in the springtime and commemorates the Exodus of the Jews from slavery in Egypt led by Moses. The holiday is called Passover because God “passed over” the houses of the Israelites during the 10th plague. Usually Passover is celebrated at home with a seder (meaning order because there is an order to the service) meal where we retell the story of the Exodus using a book called the Haggadah. Most Jews observe Passover for seven days and refrain from eating anything with leavening in it during this time. This is because the Jews left Egypt in such a hurry, their bread did not have time to rise, so we eat unleavened bread (matza) during Passover.
