Sing About Sentences
Sara Jordan

 Listen to this song.

This song is available on Sara Jordan's Grammar Grooves.

Chorus:
Sing a song about sentences,
which kind will that be?
A complete sentence tells the most.
It's the best that it can be.

A fragment is incomplete.
It leaves us wanting more.
A run-on sentence goes on and on
and makes us want to snore.

A complete sentence has two main parts.
Do you know what those parts are?
Subject! Predicate!
That's right! So good, so far.

The predicate describes the subject
or shows the subject's action.
Subject! Predicate!
Give "sentence satisfaction"!

Chorus

A fragment is incomplete.
It's only part of a thought.
There's always something missing,
and that bothers me a lot!

If we look at it closely
we can see just what it needs.
Subject! Predicate!
They're the two main parts indeed.

Chorus

A run-on sentence goes on and on
and on and on and on,
and seems to last forever.
It's really far too long!

If we break it up into smaller parts
it's a much, much better thing.
We'll have complete sentences.
Subject! Predicate! Sing!

Chorus
