Fran Friedman

Fran Friedman

Fran has always had a love for music. She taught herself to play guitar at the age of 12, and later, formed a group, singing folk music of political and social justice. In college, she continued singing folk music at local coffee houses, while majoring in Speech and Hearing Therapy at Boston University.

Fran put her music career on hold while attending U. of Wisconsin, Madison for graduate school (Master’s degree) in Audiology. Fran returned to Boston and completed her Ph.D. in Audiology from B.U. and a Post-Doctorate in Neuropsychology from Tufts New England Medical Center. In all, Fran was a clinical audiologist for over 25 years.

While Fran loved helping people through her work as an audiologist, her passion for music returned. Fran always loved working with children, and so began the combination of working with children and music. She found that she could help children feel good about themselves and respectful of others through music. “Music is such a powerful vehicle to enhance respect for oneself and others, while having fun”, says Fran. Her work with parents and children was so rewarding, she put her audiology career on hold, and became a children’s musician full-time.

Fran Friedman has been keynote speaker at national conferences and provides workshops for childhood educators, caregivers, and parents. Her presentations include “Promoting Self-Esteem Through Music”, “Celebrating Diversity Through Music”, and “Using Music to Enhance Disability Awareness.”
